ORGANIZATION AND ACTIVITY


The medical activity of the pediatric Associated Academic Group, and in particular its clinical and research competence in the field of pediatrics, is recognized all over the world. The Medical Center, which is the base of the Association, is known as “the Hospital of Padre Pio”-“Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza”, and it is formally classified as a “highly ranked religious hospital” belonging to the Vatican City State. It is considered one of the largest extra-territorial Policlinic hospital hosted in the Italian geographical territory, and it is a main leader in the medical and social assistance and scientific research, also for the population living in the Center-South of the Italian State.

AAGCRP is based at the Scientific Institute Casa Sollievo, a Vatican Medical not-profit Healthcare Center, which Board is presided and appointed by the Cardinal Secretary of State of the Vatican City currently in office. The Board is the governing body of the Organization.

The healthcare professionals, members of the medical and research scientific Group and working in the Mother and Child Department of “Casa Sollievo”, are directly engaged in pediatric care and offer to patients their wide expertise in the various fields of child care specialties. In particular, the scientific Academic Associated Group is related to the leading Mother and Child Department, which includes the units of Neonatology and pediatric hemato-oncology and the sections of endocrinology and gastroenterology. The non-medical staff counts over 2700 employees.

The Associated Academic Group  for clinical research in pediatrics of “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” is also actively involved in pediatric research and participates to several national and European projects. During the last 10 years, the members published over 150 articles with high Impact Factor in the field of pediatrics, all in prestigious international scientific journal, reported in PubMed and Scopus.
